We offer classes for all levels and it's essential that all clients start with a Beginners class to ensure that they learn the basics before progressing to more advanced levels.
Beginners – designed to introduce you to the fundamental concepts and principles of the Pilates Method. This involves learning and practising core strength awareness, muscular flexibility, joint mobility and postural alignment.
Improvers (Level 2) - once you have established an understanding of the method, we aim to challenge you by teaching a flowing practice. These classes focus on improving your awareness of your personal strengths and weaknesses so you can refine and progress.
Yogalates – a Hybrid class incorporating yoga and Pilates open to all levels. A class that fuses the dynamic elements of yoga with the stabilising and strengthening elements of pilates practice. This class is designed for those that want to be a little more physically active and incorporates standing strength work and Yogic Sun salutations in addition to Pilates matwork based exercises
Antenatal pilates –This class is offered to women at all stages of pregnancy. The class aims to get you 'baby fit' and focuses specifically on the needs of 'mothers to be' taking into account changes in posture, pelvic floor work and strength needs for when the little ones comes along

"If your muscles are too tight, your spine can be pulled out of alignment which can lead to postural problems, aches, pains and restrictions in your joints – we owe it to ourselves to re-educate our minds and bodies and East London Pilates will support you on your journey towards a happier fitter life" Kelly Wootton
Anyone wanting to start learning the Pilates Method will have their own objectives and expectations and we want to train people who are committed and passionate about improving their strength and mobility. The team are highly experienced and will take a keen interest in your progression and communication is a key aspect of our personalised approach. This is appreciated by our clients and many have been attending our classes over a long period.
We take the medical history of our clients into account when accepting them for a Pilates course. Please note that if your medical adviser or therapist has recommended you take up Pilates, we will need confirmation to this effect.
It's important that you understand what is involved in taking a 12-week course so we offer an hour-long Orientation class which covers:
- the principles behind our approach
- the history of Pilates
- the benefits of the Pilates Method
- an introduction to some of the basic movements
There is a £14 fee for this class and you should contact Kelly to book one of the sessions. The next orientation sessions will take place Monday 19th September at 8pm and Saturday 24th September at 10.30am.
Not everyone likes to work within a class environment, so we offer individual sessions with our teachers. These can be held at several venues including the client's own home.
We work with several couples who appreciate the flexibility of having personal classes in their own home to suit their work schedules.
"We appreciate that people's lifestyles can sometimes mean that commitment to a class timetable is difficult, so can provide a course of personal sessions for individuals, couples and friends" Kelly Wootton
We also find that friends, particularly mothers with young children, can benefit from taking a class together in their own homes as this can be more convenient for them. Contact Kelly for more information.
Our programme takes you on a 12-week journey of hour-long classes to develop your posture, strength, flexibility and mental well being.
Our classes follow a structured and progressive term plan so that each week you'll work through the same exercises in order to perfect your movements so you can move through to levels 2 and 3 when the time is right.
Following a standing mobility based warm up, you will work through a series of seated and lying exercises involving all muscles within the body. There are functional stretches and mobility moves in between each exercise to give you a bit of 'down time both physically and mentally
With each class you attend the familiarity and repetition of the exercises will bread confidence and competence so that you really begin to understand the technique but also your own body
We understand that occasionally work or personal plans mean that a class may have to be missed. For this reason we allow and encourage you to switch classes and attend another class of the same level on our timetable when necessary on occasions. In addition to this if you are away for business or pleasure over the term time we are accommodating in letting you double up on classes so that you do not fall behind
A typical class lasts an hour and takes place on a mat with a block and strap for certain exercises as they increase support and ease movement. They are provided at each location though some clients like to bring their own mats.
You should wear loose, comfortable clothing and we recommend bringing an additional warm top layer and socks as clients can cool down a lot during the closing relaxation period. No footwear is required during the exercises.
